Seriously, this is one of the oddest uses of celebrity I have ever seen. It appears that the home of Screech Powers (yes, that Screech Powers) is headed for foreclosure.
But, wait! Screech is fighting back!
For $15, you can buy a t-shirt and help actor Dustin Diamond keep his Milwaukee-area home. For $20, he'll even autograph it!
Down $250,000 on his mortgage and facing foreclosure, Screech is appealing to fans for help and for cash.
The Get D-Shirts Web site is equal parts humor and whimsy. There is even a section where Dustin talks about how he has crap credit and got he screwed by a lender while trying to remortgage his way out of trouble.
I can't help but wonder why the now-successful Zack Morris, A.C. Slater and/or Kelly Kapowski won't pony up some money for the geek that made them all famous. Did anybody watch the show because of Jessie Spano? Well, I think Showgirls answered that question.
Thank you Holden Lewis at Bankrate.com without whom I would have never found this excellent story.
